Makalu Peak is located in the Himalayas, a mountain range in Asia that stretches across several countries including Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, India, and Pakistan. Specifically, Makalu Peak is situated on the border between Nepal and Tibet, with its summit reaching an elevation of 8,485 meters (27,838 feet) above sea level.

Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world and is part of the Mahalangur Himalayas, which is a subrange of the Himalayas. The peak is located southeast of Mount Everest, which is the highest mountain in the world, and is considered to be one of the most challenging peaks to climb due to its steep terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.

The region around Makalu Peak is home to several ethnic communities, including the Sherpas, who are known for their expertise in mountaineering and are often employed as guides for climbers attempting to summit Makalu and other peaks in the region. The area is also known for its unique flora and fauna, including rare species such as the snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan black bear.
