The Nepal earthquake of 2015 was a major natural disaster that occurred on April 25, 2015, with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the Gorkha district of Nepal, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
The earthquake resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life, with over 8,000 people killed and more than 22,000 injured. It was also responsible for extensive damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings, with many UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley also being severely damaged.
The earthquake triggered several avalanches on Mount Everest, leading to the deaths of at least 19 climbers. The aftershocks of the earthquake continued for weeks, with over 300 aftershocks measuring above magnitude 4.0 recorded in the following month.
The international community responded quickly to the disaster, with several countries providing humanitarian aid and assistance to Nepal. Despite the initial efforts, the reconstruction process in Nepal has been slow, with many people still living in temporary shelters or damaged buildings.
